Four AHS Oral Interpretation students all had successful performances at the State Oral Interpretation Tournament in Sturgis this past weekend. Winning a superior rating in Storytelling was Kate Swier performing “Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch.” Erica Choy’s presentation “Ellen DeGeneres’ 2009 Commencement Speech at Tulane University” earned a superior as well. In the duet category, Ella Hamilton and Abby Gretschmann presented “The History of Mankind…in Less Than Ten Minutes” and earned a Superior with Distinction receiving all first place scores from each of the three state judges. In the B Class duet category, Ella and Abby were the only performers to receive this honor.  This is quite an accomplishment that Avon had not achieved for several seasons. Overall, a team scoring at least two superior rankings is awarded The Team Excellence Award plaque. Congratulations to all four performers for winning this award.

Six third grade students met at A-1 for breakfast with Mrs. Knodel before school to celebrate their hard work in multiplying. They have been working hard to memorize the facts through twelve and made their way Around the World with Multiplying in record time! Thank you to all 3rd grade parents who have been working with their students on facts at home. The class is zooming through. Also, thank you to Ed VanGerpen who came in for morning coffee and surprised us by paying for our breakfast!
