Each year, Mrs. Knodel reads Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House series to the third graders. This summer she invited 3rd and 4th graders and their families to join her in DeSmet, SD to help bring the series to life. The group of 49 participants were able to tour original buildings in town where the Ingalls family lived. They visited the cemetery where most of the family and other people mentioned in Laura's books are buried. The group ranging in age from 5 months old to grandparents enjoyed many hands on activities at the Ingalls Homestead and were able to explore every type of home the Ingalls family lived in during their time of settling in the west. Along with the daytime activities, 9 families camped out at the Ingalls Homestead, some sleeping in covered wagons.
