The 7th graders went shopping today for a Thanksgiving dinner. They are using different store’s sale ads and applying coupons for different percentages to get the total cost of their feast! They will compare store’s prices when they are done.

The Creative English students enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Hubbell’s aunt Lisa, who publishes children’s books under the pen name Jo Night. She discussed her inspiration for writing and shared the process she goes through to write, illustrate, and publish her own books!


If you see any red cans around town they are for the Bon Homme Child Protection Team and they are raising money for families in the county to receive a holiday meal. In Avon, they are located at Made Coffee House, Ron's Market, and A-1 if you would like to donate. This month the National Honor Society students wanted to recognize diabetes awareness and asked students and staff to wear blue, as you can see we had an amazing turn out! There was quite a bit of SDSU blue too🙂

We are blessed to have three exceptional special education teachers at Avon. Parents of our specials, please consider nominating them for this award! See below for nominating information.
This form can be completed by PARENTS/GUARDIANS of children in special education who wish to nominate a special education staff member who made an outstanding impact in the education of their child. Parents/guardians may nominate SPED teachers, SPED Directors, Speech/Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, School Psychologists, or Paraprofessionals who have served in their profession for three or more years. Staff member descriptions will be scored as 4=Exemplary, 3=Accomplished, 2=Developing, 1=Beginning.
DOE will invite the top five nominees to the 2026 South Dakota Special Education Conference Awards Luncheon in Sioux Falls on March 4, 2026, where the 2026 SPED Staff of the Year will be announced.
