Members Present: Chairwoman Bridgette Muller, Vice Chairman Joe Sees, Jeff Tolsma, Craig Vanderlei, and David Ratzlaff.
Officers and Others Present: Superintendent Brian Field, Business Manager Jordan Kortan, Principal Lindsey Fathke, Julie Mudder, Brad Poppe, Becky Haenfler and Dawn Kocmich.
Meeting called to order by Chairwoman Muller. (1:30 P.M.)
Motion by Tolsma, seconded by Vanderlei to approve the agenda as presented.
The Avon School Board declares “no conflicts of interest.”
Motion by Tolsma, seconded by Sees to enter executive session per SDCL 1-25-2 (1) for superintendent interviews. (1:32P.M.)
Executive session declared over by Chairwoman Muller. (8:31 P.M.)
Motion by Tolsma, seconded by Sees to offer a contract to Paul Kuhlman as CEO for the 24-25 SY in the amount of $95,000 for a 240-day contract.

Congratulations to Mr. Paul Kuhlman who was hired by the Avon School Board last night, to be the next CEO/superintendent for the Avon School District, effective July 1, 2024! Mr. Kuhlman brings 36 years of math and science teaching experience to his new leadership role at Avon Schools, with 32 of his teaching years at Avon.
Mr. Kuhlman earned his Master’s degree in Secondary Administration and Master’s degree in Natural Science from the University of South Dakota. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology Education from North Dakota State University. Mr. Kuhlman will bring his experience, education, and leadership ability to guide the Avon School District into the future! Congratulations Mr. Kuhlman!

In December, the Student Council raised money for Dakotathon. Teachers volunteered to have their names placed on containers and students put money in the container of the teacher who they wanted to get pied in the face! Thank you to our amazing teachers who were lucky to get pied, Mrs. Podzimek, Mr. Lagge, and Mr. Leibel. Overall, the student council raised $154.12!

Post Prom will be serving supper Monday night starting at 5 pm before the basketball games.


Avon Drama Club competed in the Region One Act Play competition on Wednesday, January 17th in Mitchell. They secured 2nd place with their performance of “Booby Trap” and advance on to the State One Act Festival which will be held in Brandon Valley on February 1st-3rd. There will be a matinee performance of the one act play on Sunday, January 21st at 1:00pm at the Avon High School gym. There is no admission charge for this show. Those earning a Superior Acting Award from the region competition were Noah Watchorn, Caleb Wallinga, and Kate Swier.
Following the matinee performance on Sunday, Post Prom will be selling root beer floats!



Due to the forecasted snow and high wind gusts with blowing snow causing poor visibility, the Avon School District will have an early release today, Thursday, January 18, at 1:00 p.m. All after school practices and evening activities have been postponed or cancelled. Thank you.

The Lady Pirate Volleyball Team earned Team Academic All-State. This is earned when the team maintains above a 3.5 GPA. Way to go ladies!
